On October 16, 17 and 18, Billie Eilish performed three sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden.
I attended the Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour on the 17th and had much fun. Eilish’s concert had amazing lights and fires on the stage that would go out during different parts of songs. These lights would flash during different songs. The lights were usually white but during “Guess,” they were all green for the “BRAT” album.
Opening
She had entered through a box that brought her down on the stage while she sang “Chihiro.” During “when the party’s over” she would loop her vocals while the whole audience had to remain silent. This took about a minute and was so cool to see. That was beautiful because it shows that she can have a whole song with just her voice alone. During “Bad Guy” everyone was jumping and you could feel the floor shaking from underneath you!
Guess
She also performed her “Guess” remix. The remix with Eilish came out about two months after the original sung by, Charli XCX. The song blew up more than the original had. Even though Charli Xcx was not attending the show, she was on the screen. The music video was shown on all of the screens during the first half of the song. Eilish went out on the second stage in the second half and sang her parts.
First songs
The oldest songs of hers that she played were, “lovely,” “idontwannabeyouanymore,” and “ocean eyes” and she sang those in a remix together. She played all of these on the piano.
Eilish’s first big hit was “ocean eyes” in 2017, when she was only 13-years-old. Due to her brother, FINNEAS songwriting, she has been singing since she was 3.
Eilish and her brother
During, “What Was I Made For?,” “Happier Than Ever,” and “BIRDS OF A FEATHER,” her brother came out on stage with her. This was exciting because her brother has helped her so much throughout her career while also having a successful one of his own.
“What Was I Made For?” was written by Eilish and her brother for the “Barbie” movie that came out in the summer of 2023. This song was a huge success and a surprise for the movie.
During “Happier Than Ever” Eilish and her brother were playing electric guitars and there was fire, it was cool.
Last song
The last but not least song was “BIRDS OF A FEATHER.” Confetti blasted out around the pit and the lower bowl around the song’s end. The confetti looked like birds flying around.
Interviews
Two students at Colonia High School were interviewed about their opinions on the concert. Daniella Albuquerque said, “Honestly, I wished the concert was longer. It felt like she was only on for 10 minutes.” “The lines for merchandise were actually insane. When I got there, around 7 p.m., there were about hundreds of people in line. In my opinion, the merchandise was way too expensive.”
I agree with Albuquerque about the merch lines being too long. I wasn’t planning on getting any merch because the lines were too long and the prices were too high. My mom bought me a shirt from the merch line while the openers were playing. I was so excited and did not expect it.
Mia Lavoura said that some songs she wished she played were “The 30th” and “i love you.” Lavoura thinks that the openers were not bad. Lavoura said, “The (merch) lines were long but I luckily got on a short line.” “I wish it was longer and I really wish she played more songs.”
I agree with Lavoura saying she wishes it were longer and she played more songs. While the concert did not feel short I could have been there all day and listened to her sing. Some songs I wish she played were, “Xanny” and “Six Feet Under.“
